Power of Thought – How to Direct Your Thoughts Towards What You Want

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

brain

One of the things that everyone wants in life is SUCCESS.  I haven’t met a single person or worked with a single client who said they didn’t want success yet everyone’s definition of success is different.

For some, success is having millions of dollars. For some, they want a thriving business. Others want freedom to travel and enjoy life. While others want a new job at a company where they can make a contribution.  For some success is a nice home with a warm and loving family with healthy relationships. Some want to feel healthy and fit. And yes, there are those who see success as having all of the above.

No one is right and no one is wrong. Everyone has his or her description, definition, interpretation, or perception of success.

There are two keys to start enjoying success. First, not only knowing and believing that you CAN have success, also it is understanding that it is YOUR RIGHT to be successful.  You are not here to fail or to suffer. Accepting this is crucial to building your success because some people believe that it is not their right to be successful or they don’t deserve to be successful.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

You DO deserve to be successful.

We all have powers within our conscious and subconscious mind that begin with our thoughts.  Our thoughts are powerful forces of energy that shape and create our reality.

You become whatever you think about your “self”. Weak thoughts create a weak person. Confident thoughts create a confident person. Loving thoughts create a loving person. And successful thoughts create a successful person.

I invite you to join us for a FREE Teleconference on the Power of Thought where you will learn how to insert thoughts that support the success you want in your life. Power of thought gives you access to creating success defined by YOU.

Say “Goodbye” to the Lack of Self Confidence

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Self-confidence is a problem that plagues more people and keeps them from moving forward on their dreams. Think of the first time you were judged in life. If you are like most people, you remember being a small child and hearing something like,  “bad boy” or “bad girl”.  Something as simple as that was the beginning of self-doubt.

You are not alone on this. It doesn’t matter if you are 20 or 80, male or female, with 30 years of experience in your career or just starting out. The lack of self-confidence and self-doubt is something that affects most people.

Here is an opportunity to get beyond the years of worry and concern about being “good enough”. Learn how to have the inner-strength to know what you want and to go after it confidently.

Free teleconference audio recording is now available

Here is a sneak peak of what you will learn:

  • How to shift from “not enough” to truly having self-worth!
  • How to stop the pattern of comparing yourself to others!
  • How to start living from who you already are
  • When you have a pattern of thinking “I’m not enough”, typically you are driven to fill the void caused by the sense of lack. Then you notice there is some other void to fill, and on and on…endless voids to fill. The internal drive to “want to be enough” often requires things being perfect before proceeding. This is all part of a trap based on our pattern of thinking. If you are waiting for things to be perfect…you have a long wait before you’ll ever be satisfied.

This free recording is dedicated to inspiring you to know who you really are and to see the personal satisfaction that you can have now and forever.

You can take a deep breath of relief.  Satisfaction now and forever is available!

    Ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you tired of having thoughts of self-doubt?
  • Do you compare yourself to others and feel bad?
  • Is lack of self-confidence holding you back?
  • Do you have thoughts like “if I could be_____, then I would be happy”?
  • Have you been keeping your insecurities a secret?
  • Do you know who you really are?
  • Would you like to break through this illusion once and for all?

MLK 25 Challenge: What Are You Doing For Others?
    By Patrick A. Corvington

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?”

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. devoted his life to the work of building a more just and equal society. While we have made great progress, we still have work to do to realize Dr. King’s dream. As Americans, that is a job for all of us – not just on MLK Day but throughout the year.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the King holiday, and to encourage ongoing service throughout the year, we are launching the MLK 25 Challenge this week. It’s a call to all Americans to honor Dr. King by pledging to take at least 25 actions during 2011 to make a difference for others and strengthen our communities.

    Why Serve On MLK Day?
    How Can I Serve?
    Learn About Dr. King

From something as simple as cleaning a neighborhood park to a more intensive commitment such as becoming a mentor, the key is to give of yourself in some way to help others.

You may want to volunteer in a range of efforts, or make a sustained commitment to a single cause. There is no shortage of work to be done, or lack of ways to get involved. Follow your passion, and find something that’s right for you.

    Inspiring Acts In 2010
    Yahoo.com

Changing the world starts with one simple act. In difficult times, stories of heroic endeavor always hearten us. But sometimes what motivates us are the everyday acts, things so simple that we can easily contribute. Everyone, after all, has the power to give kindness.

The people we’ve called out as our Most Inspiring Acts were among the many this year who saw an injustice or a void or someone down-and-out who needed a little help. They include a preschooler struggling to understand homelessness, a mother instilling bravery in sick children, a blogger cheering up strangers, and a heart-transplant recipient spreading the message of the greatest gift of all. They’re very different people, from all across America, who decided to step forward and do one simple good deed. And their actions have inspired friends, neighbors, strangers, communities to carry forward their cause, or take up their own mission.

If their stories inspire you, visit Ripples of Kindness (kindness.yahoo.com). As more people take action and encourage others, your ripple of kindness might become a wave of change. That’s how good grows.

8 Ways to Earn Extra Cash

    Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

    by Anthony Balderrama

During the holidays and the new year everyone can use some extra cash. Here is a good article highlighting eight moneymaking suggestions that you might not have considered before.

    1. If you’re crafty - Etsy Etsy is an online marketplace where creative people can sell their handmade crafts and othter times (think a purse made out of a license plate or a throw pillow for your couch). If you have the knack for handcrafted art, Etsy could be a way for you to get your work seen by thousands and get compensated for it. Check out: www.etsy.com/how_selling_works.php

    2. If you’re skilled in a hobby or craft - Bragadoo Word of mouth is one of the best ways to market yourself, and logging on to Bragadoo and posting information about your area of expertise (cooking, caretaking, personal training, etc.) is a cheaper than making a TV commercial. Anyone who hires you can then post about their experience – brag, if you will – and hopefully lead others to also hire you. It’s a community built on recommendations. Check out: www.bragadoo.com/help

    3. If you want to tap into your inner journalist - Seed With traditional news outlets now competing with blogs and other websites, opportunities for freelance work are better than ever. If you’re a photographer or writer who wants to get your work published, have a visible online presence and earn money for it, submitting your work to Seed might be the way to go. Check out: www.seed.com

    4. If you like to give your opinion - Free Paid Surveys or Find Focus Groups Because consumer data is so valuable to marketers, you can earn money just for answering questions about your purchases and consumer preferences. At either site you can find surveys to answer, which does mean answer many, many questions, but it also means getting paid for it, too. Check out: http://freepaidsurveys.net, http://findfocusgroups.com

    5. If you’re a packrat - Ebay, Amazon Marketplace What better way to make money than to sell the stuff you’re not using? People collect, well, everything. Old TV Guides? The fancy (but ugly) dishes your grandmother gave you for your wedding? A pair of designer jeans you bought two sizes too small because you thought you’d one day fit into them? Someone will buy them! Check out an online market that lets users put their items up for auction. The site might get a small portion of your sale, but you pocket most (or all) of the cash and didn’t have to do much. You could literally be sitting on money right now. Check out: www.ebay.com, www.amazon.com

    6. If you’re a born salesperson - Avon Some people are born for sales; others are not. Those of you with the gift for sales can put your skills to work with a company like Avon. If you are passionate about the company’s products and can convey to customers why they should also give the products a try, then you can probably make a sale. You make your own hours and aren’t confined to an office, which is perfect for a side job. Check out: www.careerbuilder.com/jobs/company/Avon/?siteid=cbworkbuzz

    7. If you like to shop – Be a secret shopper Secret shoppers are hired by a company to go to a store, shop for some items, and then report back on their experience. Their feedback gives the company insight on the customer experience, which might be used to improve that company’s procedures or marketing approach. Check out: www.secretshopper.com, www.secretshoppercompany.com, www.nationalshoppingservice.com

    8. If you like to create multimedia - Sell your photos to stock agencies or license via an online photo sharing site Although many photographers would love to have their work exhibited at a gallery, those opportunities are hard to come by. While you work toward getting your showing, you can make some money by shooting pictures and selling them to a stock agency. When companies need stock photos for an ad or an online article, they pay you a fee if they use your photograph. You can also have your work licensed through an online photograph-hosting site, such as Flickr. Check out: www.istockphoto.com/sell-stock-photos.php, www.flickr.com/account/prefs/gettyimages

    The Absolute Best Interview Strategy

    Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
I first wrote this interview strategy back in the mid 90′s when I started recruiting. At the time, I was surprised at how great a candidate could be with me in an interview however under the pressure of meeting with a hiring manager, did not do very well.  This interview strategy has been “tried and tested” and has helped so many people understand the “strategy” of an interview and go on to get the job. Warning: You MUST do the exercises below to reap the benefits. This gives you a chance to “pre-think” the kind of points you want to share in the interview.
    Happy Interviewing!

    The Absolute Best Interview Strategy

    Written by:  Donna Fedor

Many people show up for their interview with a nice suit, a copy of their resume and some research on the job/company but most often don’t know how to create a strategy for getting the job. The great thing about this kind of strategy is that once you have it, you can use it for every job interview. The requirements for this tool are to simply do the exercises below …even if you think you know the answers.

    Overview

When people don’t get the job, it is often not because they don’t have the skills. Usually the interview didn’t go well or at least it didn’t go as well as the person that did get the job.  So, your part in the interview is to articulate why they should hire you. Who are they hiring? What is your character, track record, or reputation?  Through a series of questions, they hope to get to know you. Many people struggle so following are a few exercises to help you prepare with this one area. You’ll want to write out your answers so you can review them a few times before each interview. You may not have the opportunity to share all of the information you gather but whenever the opportunity presents itself during the interview; your strategy becomes to fit in whatever you can. This interview tool will help you identify the strengths that they want and need to know about you. These are the best things you could share about yourself on the interview so review your notes several times before each interview.

Notes – Would you go into a staff meeting with 10 things to cover and forget your agenda? What is the likelihood you’ll forget at least half of what you wanted to cover?  The idea isn’t to bring comprehensive notes, just a brief outline of the important areas so you can casually glance at them if needed.

Step 1 – Previous job experience

All too often, your thoughts about your job aren’t all great (after all, you are leaving your job…or you’ve already left). This exercise gives you a chance to pre think the best possible aspects of your experience in each job and allows you to stay focused on all positive comments during the interview. It also gives you great things to talk about so you can keep the conversation going. Bottom line- it conveys that you are an enthusiastic person, productive employee and well respected by your employer. Through out the interview, try to share as many of these comments as you can.

Answer the follow three questions for each of your past jobs.  If you can’t think of the three best things just write what you can.

    • List three things you like best about your current/most recent job (you may have to think back to a time when you really liked it)
    • List three things you accomplished or contributed in your current/most recent job
    • List three things you are best known for in your current/most recent job

Now answer the same questions for each of your past jobs

Step 2 – What are your strengths?

Sharing your strengths is the area where most people struggle.  You have to realize… you are good at your job… and everyone has probably told you that. It’s common for people to be too critical of themselves and that really gets in the way when it comes time to share your strengths on the interview. Step 2 has two exercises will help you be prepared with a list of your strengths that you can feel great about.

First, choose five people in your life that you have a good relationship with and ask them “What are the top five reasons someone should hire me?” Some suggestions on who to choose would be your best friend, your favorite co-worker or mentor, your favorite boss, your mother, father, sister or brother. Write down their feedback.  Even on a good day, you wouldn’t remember half of the great things they say about you. During the interview, you can share your strengths and also share what others have told you about yourself. This exercise will give you a completely different view of yourself.

Additionally you’ll want to make a list with your own perspective of your strengths. You should have at least 8-10 strengths that you can share about yourself.  Come up with an example to support each of your strengths. If you can’t think of an example, maybe it’s not really a strength.  Try not to say, “I am a hard worker” and not back that up with what you mean by that.  The interviewer will not think of you being a hard worker just because you said the words.  Support your strength with an explanation or an example of how your company could count on you for that strength. Another good way to identify with your strength is to ask yourself “why are you good in that particular area’. For example, someone who is always punctual…asking yourself why might help you see that you have an extremely strong commitment to being responsible or doing what you say.  This is great insight that you can share to support your character strengths which is often more important than your skills.

    Step – 3 Questions

Prepare questions for your interview. So, this is more important than you might think. It actually can be a deal breaker for some interviewers who have a standard that says, if you don’t ask questions you are either not prepared or not interested. I recommend you neatly write or print them out and bring them with you.

Here are six questions that get the interviewer sharing their thoughts with you. Feel free to use these or write your own. However, avoid asking about salary or benefits on the first interview unless the interviewer brings it up.

    About the company

    1. Tell me how you would describe your department’s/company’s culture?
    2. What is new and exciting in your company/group/department?

    About the position

    1. How would you describe the person that has performed the best in this position? What about them contributed to their success in the position?
    2. Can you tell me about any challenges or obstacles I should be aware of in this position?

    About the manager

    1. Describe your management style?  What will it be like to work for you?
    2. What are your expectations of me or of those in your department?

(End of interview) Do I have your vote? Are you going to recommend that I be considered?

    Step 4 – The Basics

    • Review everything you’ve written several times before the interview
    • Dress professional, conservative and not a lot of perfume/cologne
    • Bring a few copies of your resume
    • Arrive early and be friendly to the receptionist
    • Review the company’s web site.

The opportunity to share information about you is during the interview.  If you don’t say something about yourself, the interviewer won’t know it. So if you’re reliable, say it, if you’re punctual, say it etc… They are hoping you are the one… as much as you are hoping you are the one.

    To your Ultimate Success!

Re-THINK! The Alternatives to Sabotaging your Career Goals

    Sunday, June 20th, 2010

I read this article and thought it makes some excellent points. The title is a disguise.  The article is actually telling you what to do, not what not to do. This is not a quick read. This is a reference article…meaning you will want to reference it throughout your job search.  After you read the “what not to do”, read the alternatives listed (I highlighted them to make a good point).  The alternative is your answer to Re-THINKING! The alternative gives you the position of power. Too often we feel disempowered and accept it. No, do not allow yourself to be disempowered!  You have way more potential then you give yourself credit for.  When you feel circumstances are pulling you down, Re-THINK!  YOU have to pull yourself up. The alternatives here show you many ways to do this.

12 Guaranteed Ways to Sabotage Your Career Goals

Curt Rosengren, On Thursday April 8, 2010, 12:26 pm EDT

Let’s face it, jumping out of your comfy rut and pursuing your dreams can be scary. And who wants to be scared? To save you from actually having to come face-to-face with your potential, here are 12 surefire ways to let the air out of the tires so your dreams never have a chance to gain momentum:

[See the best careers for 2010.]

Make decisions based on what “they” think you should do: If you really want to shut those pesky dreams down from the get-go, then ignore your own feelings and make your decisions based on what somebody else thinks. It doesn’t matter who, as long as it’s not you. Choose your career because it’s what your parents expect, or because people will admire it, or because it fits our cultural definition of success. Under no circumstances should you ever look inside and take a good hard look at what energizes and inspires you.

Alternative: Ask, “What feels right to me?”

Don’t prioritize your dream: Making everything in your life a priority except for your dream is another great way to ensure that it grinds to a halt. If you make everything else more important than what you really want to do, guess what filters down to the bottom of the to-do list, ensuring little or no action gets taken on it? You guessed it!

Alternative: Commit to taking action on your dream as one of your top three priorities.

Look for the quick fix: If you want to make sure you are never in danger of turning that dream into reality, repeat after me, “It has to happen right away.” The more impatient you can be, the greater the potential to be frustrated when it doesn’t happen immediately (and odds are very good that it won’t happen immediately). And that will give you reason to throw your hands in the air and say, “See? It’s not possible.”

Alternative: Change your mindset from seeking a quick fix to taking a first step.

Equate today’s reality with tomorrow’s potential: In my experience, most people look at the potential for making an immediate career change and come to the conclusion that they can’t. At least not right away. There is almost always some kind of foundation to be laid, preparation to be made, or obstacle to be overcome before the actually change can take place. And that makes for a perfect excuse to never get started. Make this your mantra: “If I can’t do it today, then it’s impossible.” See how easy that was? You didn’t even have to take a single step.

Alternative: Ask, “By when could I do it? How? What needs to be in place for that change to happen?”

Make the obstacles the path: I can’t foresee your future, but I can almost guarantee that you’re going to encounter obstacles on the path to any dream you might pursue. So what better way to get in your own way than to fixate on those obstacles? They’re going to be there anyway, right? You might as well focus on them and make sure they stop you dead in your tracks.

Alternative: Make each obstacle a starting point, rather than an end point. Ask, “OK, how do I get past this one?”

Don’t question your assumptions: Don’t get me wrong. Assumptions themselves aren’t going to help you sabotage your dreams. It’s the flawed assumption that you never examine that will do the trick. Things like, “That person would never say yes to that request.” Or, “They would never let me do ‘x’.” Or even the tried and true, “I can’t do that.” Whatever you do, if you find yourself making assumptions about what’s possible in your life, do not look at them more carefully. You might find that they’re completely bogus.

Alternative: Ask, “What assumptions am I making? Are they valid? Is there another way to look at it?”

Try to sprint a marathon: If you really want to convince yourself that “all that talk about dreams is a bunch of hooey because I tried it and it didn’t work,” come sprinting out of the gate without settling in for the long haul. Get excited about the possibilities, commit yourself to running hard towards your goal, and then burn out because you didn’t put any kind of system in place to support your efforts for the long run.

Alternative: Ask, “What will help me stay focused and maintain momentum for the long haul?”

Say, “I can’t.” A lot! Any time you’re faced with something that isn’t a slam dunk guaranteed success, look at the obstacles and declare – loudly and with vigor – “I can’t!” If that doesn’t work, you can make your argument even more convincing by enumerating the countless reasons why you can’t. You can ratchet up the effectiveness on this one by combining it with “Make the obstacles the path.”

Alternative: Replace “I can’t” with, “How could I?”

Listen to the cynics: If you can’t convince yourself that you can’t, let others help you. You’ll find no shortage of cynics, skeptics, and nattering nabobs of negativism to lend a hand. They may say it with a smile under the guise of being “realistic,” but what they’re really doing is projecting their own lack of belief onto you. Take advantage of that!

Alternative: Seek out positive, motivated people to spend time with and get feedback from. Spend time with people who lift you up.

Try to do it all yourself: I don’t care how smart you are, how capable you are, or how much of a genius you are in your chosen field, you can’t do it on your own. You will always need support. There will always be things you don’t know, or aren’t good at. So take advantage of that fact and try to do it all yourself. It’s a guaranteed anchor for your progress!

Alternative: Ask, “What support do I need? Where can I find it?”

Wait until the time is right: If you want to shut down your dreams completely while still paying lip service to intending to pursue them, this is a great option! The fact is, the time will never be right. There will always be something getting in your way. You will always be able to find a way to consider yourself not-quite-prepared.

Alternative: Ask, “What step can I take right now that will lead me in that direction?”

Focus your attention on the negative: Whatever you do, don’t pay any attention to the positive. Don’t look at what you have done well. Don’t acknowledge your successes. Ignore the progress you have made. Focus instead on the negative. That will make sure you feel too uncertain and insecure to risk any real action (or even more dangerous, get any real traction) on the path to your dreams.

Alternative: Make a habit of identifying, acknowledging, and celebrating the positive.
